“Although we still can’t travel that freely because of the pandemic, maybe traveling through pixels is the best thing right now.”

Mateusz Napieralski, Polish illustrator, art director and animator is helping us to imagine some of his favorite destinations in his Airport Postcards. The lively illustrations are inspired by previous trips and he reflects on them as he sits in the airports, waiting for his return flight.

At a time when flights are still limited, Mateusz Napieralski with his pencil and his playful, bold and colorful shapes transports us to the cities he loves most.

From Oslo to Vancouver to Barcelona, the illustrator’s postcards will make you travel with your imagination.

A new playground dedicated to Kobe Bryant is born in Matera

A new playground dedicated to Kobe Bryant is born in Matera

Emanuele D'Angelo · 4 months ago · Art

In Basilicata, precisely in Matera, a new and colorful playground dedicated to the famous basketball player Kobe Bryant has just been realized.
Part of the larger project to restore the gardens and areas near the school, the new basketball court features the stylized figure of the American champion, who tragically died on January 26th due to a plane crash.

An immense void, that left by the sportsman, that the students have tried to fill with this work created thanks to Marica Montemurro, Gianni Papapietro and Luca Bia – members of #TeamArt, called to evoke on the surface of the field the drawings and ideas of the youngest.

An initiative born after the lockdown, the Istituto Comprensivo G. Pascoli of Matera, has totally redeveloped the Olimpia Playground Kobe Bryant basketball court: an open-air sports facility abandoned for years, taken away from degradation and finally returned to the community thanks to the collaboration between teachers, students, and artists of the area.

Floating MAiZE, the suspended plastic by Jean Shin

Floating MAiZE, the suspended plastic by Jean Shin

Giulia Pacciardi · 4 months ago · Art

It is called Floating MAiZE and is the latest installation by the American artist Jean Shin, inside the Winter Garden of Brookfield Place in New York.
The installation, which has more than 7,000 plastic bottles of Mountain Dew soda, is suspended in the atrium, and thanks to the lights coming in through the large windows create a particular play of colors.
Some of the bottles used in the installation come from Sure We Can, a non-profit recycling organization located in Brooklyn, a neighborhood where the artist lives.

The work, of immediate understanding, is a criticism of waste, of the immoderate use of plastic that ends up in our oceans, but also of the wrong eating habits of the American people who, according to the artist, are creating “the slow pandemic that afflicts the United States, heart disease and diabetes”.

FloFloating MAiZE, part of this year’s River to River Festival, called Four Voices, will be visible until August 30, 2020.

“GIANT SCULPTURE”, the work of the duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh

“GIANT SCULPTURE”, the work of the duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh

Emanuele D'Angelo · 4 months ago · Art

On the highest point of the Belgian nature reserve of Hoge Mouw, the Gijs Van Vaerenbergh collective formed by Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh has completed its latest work entitled “GIANT SCULPTURE”.

Located near Kasterlee in the north of Belgium, this varied landscape with coniferous forests on sandy soil, with moors, peat bogs, open sand currents, hollow roads and streams is also rich in mystical stories dating back to pre-Christian cultures.

The sculpture is conceived as a domed faceted shell, its face has the classical features typical of Greek sculpture, composed of 2115 welded metal triangles 6 mm thick.

The site-specific artwork “GIANT SCULPTURE” by artists of Belgian origin has been installed in an intimate forest clearing on top of a 30-meter-high earth dune. The head that looks as if it has just been discovered, while the rest of the body remains hidden beneath the surface, rises from the sand like a vestige of ancient times.

Michael James Schneider’s Balloon Art

Michael James Schneider’s Balloon Art

Emanuele D'Angelo · 4 months ago · Art

American artist Michael James Schneider has found a playful, nonconformist and surprising way to respond to the many negative comments on social networks.

While usually the messages of the profiles of those who pollute the networks with racist, sexist, reactionary messages remain unnoticed, Michael James Schneider challenges them with his graphic creations made of inflatable balloons.

“I’m inspired by comments on the networks, I’m trying to hijack this medium. Balloons were something that worked on the networks, they are often used in weddings and prenatal parties where the genre of children is revealed, so they were a disruptive and natural way to deal with this process of deconstructing preconceived ideas. I like the contrast between deep, funny or provocative quotes written with objects considered accessories, secondary.”

Exposed on the street, these balloons give an air of celebration, but in reality then spread messages of political commitment, made accessible thanks to the lightness that comes from these colorful objects.

A different and creative way to respond to criticism, innovative that leaves no room for further answers. Below you can find some of his answers!
