The film for those who believe in love and let themselves be overwhelmed by those strange sensations that are still nameless, indefinite, but that create hope in the heart. Les amours imaginaires is a 2010 film by a newcomer Xavier Dolan who soon testified his talent through simple images and complex feelings that intertwine the lives of three young guys.
Someone called the director’s performance unripe, perhaps because of his inability to rework the high inspirations in a story that is essentially about love; but who is able to explain the dreams and disappointments of someone who is not ourselves? It is also difficult in this case. And more difficult is to grasp the unexpressed thoughts of the three protagonists who silently fantasize about romantic stories that are not reflected in reality and remain, in fact, “imaginary“.
The vibrant pop-colored photography exalts, even more, the sensations experienced by the characters, the cutouts and the close-up shots leave room for gestures that become more intuitive than words and the musical choice almost reaches perfection by opening the curtain with a Prelude in C – Bach’s Major; everything seems to be in its place except the souls of these three lovers whose end we do not reveal to you.
Love, friendship, intimate moments and sharing are the same that the photographer Alba Yruela has decided to fix in time with her shots. The warm light and close-ups bring us so close to these images that we have the feeling of recognizing those moments of calm in the middle of the frenetic rhythm of our lives.
